Well, it’s not much of an update but at the same time it is.
It’s one of the most wanted features on an entertainment site: a uniform video format.
With WMV, MOV and all these different video types you need heaps of players but one stands out most from the rest, it is the installed player on computers today, it’s compression is beyond comprehension (meh, tackky) you can make a 500mb video down to 100MB with hardly loosing any quality… give up? FLV:FLASH PLAYER.
Today GoneBerserk has gone under the knife but with something I’ve never experimented with.. FFmpeg which is a server-side program that will allow me to upload mov, mp4, wmv almost any video file at all and convert it to flv and take a few pictures of the video for thumbnailing.
Alright, this may sound like gibberish to you, basically (for example) a user uploads a 20mb wmv video file, once uploaded, the website automagically behind the scenes add 2 eggs 200 grams of butter, a teaspoon of sugar and one strand of hair, stair for about 5 minutes and for some weird reason it has changed from a wmv 20mb file to a 7mb flv saving viewers loading time and allowing for VERY high quality video.
FFmpeg, since I had never used it before was looking like a daunting task to do but now that I have got a lot of it covered, you may just see goneberserk completed a lot earlier.
I have very high hopes for GoneBerserk.com, I think it is really going to go off with a bang - did I mention I moved host, only for a week or two, testing them out. HostGator.com they seem a hell of a lot faster with loading times, though I have only put goneberserk on their and leaving the rest with christheferal and aussieferal hostmonster.
Anyway, back to working, I got school on Thursday and am busy tomorrow.
