EDIT: This webcam I just found out can actually record, still in 4:3 but at MUCH higher resolution, maintaining about 25, sometimes 30 frames instead of a constant 30 per second at the res of (which you can crop to make 16:9) at 1600 x 1200 which they never mentioned, HOW SWEET IS THAT! IT’S EVEN BETTER THAN HIGH DEF, frame rate aside
This should really have been posted on the 17th when I got the thing but I have been having to much damn fun with it that I have been sidetracked from my blog! :p
I just bought the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 ($150 AUD) and boy is it sweet, best webcam I have EVER had, it is BLOODY AWESOME, I definatly recommend this to anybody who wants high quality skype, streaming or youtube recording videos. Although it doesn’t record at 16:9 High-definition, it records at 4:3 (720-not sure if it is progressive or interlaced.) high-definition, and believe me, 720 or 1080, they are both very impressive and I am more than happy with 720, it records at upto 30 frames per second, 60 would have been nice, so it is a slight step down from HD but it is the best quality camera on the market that I can see. I t has an in-built microphone which is pretty sweet too, I still prefer my (also) Logitech headphones which are brilliant too!
The sensor is only 2 megapixels but can enhance the image to 8 MP, which is ok-ish, I guess you still get better quality than just using the 2MP res. This camera has everything, I might post a video review, it even has carl-zeiss optics.
Pros:
-Awesome res and frame rate
-Very good colour realism
-Sweet extra fun features
-Privacy option
-Built in good-quality microphone, better than the old cameras I had.
-Stand
-Carl-zeiss optics
-Record video at 720(i/p not sure)
-Great Price
-Cord long, My estimate, 4m (yay!)
-LED indication that is used in a decorative way instead of one boring old light just sitting there.
-Easy-to-press snap button to take a picture of your self at any time
Cons
-No lens cover
-Cord is not retractable
-Cord can easily move the camera
-when pressing the snap button ON THE CAMERA (not the software) you can easily shake the camera resulting in a blured image.
I love logitech’s hardware though I think some of their software needs a bit of work on it. I now have a logitech camera, mouse and headset and they are the best supplier I have ever used. Logitech is now almost my official favourite hardware accessory company.
Now, a lot of you might be saying, why did I get it from Dicksmith for $150 when I can get it online for $100 inc. shipping.
Well, here is a list of simple reasons:
-I am concidering getting a job at Dick Smith PowerHouse
-They gave me a free extended 2 year warranty and if the camera breaks I get a newer (possiby better) model camera which is coming out later this year (hopefully 16:9, and if so, hopefully the camera breaks :D) as a replacement.
-I rather they get their commission because they have the best support out of all the other tech sellers that I know of in our area.
In other words, I got about $39 off plus I might even get a new $150 camera once it breaks… If it breaks.. damn I just realized, logitechs things are hard to break… oh well :p
Sidenote: In fact I have dropped my mouse well over 100 times on hard floor (before I moved) with about a 1 meter drop and it is still working perfectly, no rattles or anything unlike other companies.
