MacBook Air… My Opinions

Author: Chris Morris  //  Category: Reviews, Opinions & Comparisons

First off, just a couple corrections, the macbookair, I forgot to mention, is great for somebody who wants something basic and portable, but I just don’t see how $800 can justify 0.8CM difference.
Second off, when I said “I mean $700 or $400″ I meant $700 or $500 :p
Third, correction you can play dvd’s….. if you buy an external superdrive (which defeats the portability) or you can carry a full sized PC with you on the plane… or use your friends PC…
Fourth, TimeCapsule doesn’t have to be carried around, but what if you need to restore files when you are far away from your base station…

Anyway guys, tell me what you think!
Also, is this video-blogging working out well? I mean, in the future when I get a bit more time I will be doing both video and text!

Stupid N96 Review Post

Author: Chris Morris  //  Category: Post Removal

Hey guys, I have removed the post about entitled “Stupid N96 Review” because the person who was reviewing it was just uploading it for the heck of it and was, I guess a little nervous on camera, he is still learning how to make videos and practicing so I think it would only be nice to take down the post which may have been a little insulting. I apologize.

More info later, I have to go now

OMG! Myspace Psycho Kid

Author: Chris Morris  //  Category: Funny Finds

Well, I don’t like how they kept teasing him but the kid has problems if he is really this obsessed, then again, I don’t know his living environment. I couldn’t help but laugh at some of the things in this video though, some of it was too funny.

Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000

Author: Chris Morris  //  Category: Gadgets

EDIT: This webcam I just found out can actually record, still in 4:3 but at MUCH higher resolution, maintaining about 25, sometimes 30 frames instead of a constant 30 per second at the res of (which you can crop to make 16:9) at 1600 x 1200 which they never mentioned, HOW SWEET IS THAT! IT’S EVEN BETTER THAN HIGH DEF, frame rate aside

This should really have been posted on the 17th when I got the thing but I have been having to much damn fun with it that I have been sidetracked from my blog! :p

I just bought the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 ($150 AUD) and boy is it sweet, best webcam I have EVER had, it is BLOODY AWESOME, I definatly recommend this to anybody who wants high quality skype, streaming or youtube recording videos. Although it doesn’t record at 16:9 High-definition, it records at 4:3 (720-not sure if it is progressive or interlaced.) high-definition, and believe me, 720 or 1080, they are both very impressive and I am more than happy with 720, it records at upto 30 frames per second, 60 would have been nice, so it is a slight step down from HD but it is the best quality camera on the market that I can see. I t has an in-built microphone which is pretty sweet too, I still prefer my (also) Logitech headphones which are brilliant too!

The sensor is only 2 megapixels but can enhance the image to 8 MP, which is ok-ish, I guess you still get better quality than just using the 2MP res. This camera has everything, I might post a video review, it even has carl-zeiss optics.

Pros:
-Awesome res and frame rate
-Very good colour realism
-Sweet extra fun features
-Privacy option
-Built in good-quality microphone, better than the old cameras I had.
-Stand
-Carl-zeiss optics
-Record video at 720(i/p not sure)
-Great Price
-Cord long, My estimate, 4m (yay!)
-LED indication that is used in a decorative way instead of one boring old light just sitting there.
-Easy-to-press snap button to take a picture of your self at any time

Cons
-No lens cover
-Cord is not retractable
-Cord can easily move the camera
-when pressing the snap button ON THE CAMERA (not the software) you can easily shake the camera resulting in a blured image.

I love logitech’s hardware though I think some of their software needs a bit of work on it. I now have a logitech camera, mouse and headset and they are the best supplier I have ever used. Logitech is now almost my official favourite hardware accessory company.

Now, a lot of you might be saying, why did I get it from Dicksmith for $150 when I can get it online for $100 inc. shipping.
Well, here is a list of simple reasons:
-I am concidering getting a job at Dick Smith PowerHouse
-They gave me a free extended 2 year warranty and if the camera breaks I get a newer (possiby better) model camera which is coming out later this year (hopefully 16:9, and if so, hopefully the camera breaks :D) as a replacement.
-I rather they get their commission because they have the best support out of all the other tech sellers that I know of in our area.

In other words, I got about $39 off plus I might even get a new $150 camera once it breaks… If it breaks.. damn I just realized, logitechs things are hard to break… oh well :p
Sidenote: In fact I have dropped my mouse well over 100 times on hard floor (before I moved) with about a 1 meter drop and it is still working perfectly, no rattles or anything unlike other companies.

Online With Chris Pirillo

Author: Chris Morris  //  Category: TV Personality, World Wide Web, internet/computers

Remember Chris Pirillo? The old host of Call For Help? Well he now does his own online stream (I might eventually start one in the future for a secret site that is under development.) I think this is how I went over my bandwidth but anyway, jsut before I was throttled I was on the phone to him, wasn’t much of a conversation or anything special but it was fun and I enjoyd it a lot.

It looks like he has persuaded me into an iMac instead of a macbookpro because of the price, or possibly even a 64 bit version of XP, though I prefer getting a mac. So I might be saving up for an imac 24 inch 2.8 GHz over the next months.

Anyway, check out his stream, it’s open 24/7 with chat and he takes calls as well (toll free), very entertaining at most times. Watch out for the bandwidth though, I got caught… I think…

Throttled, After Swapping ISP

Author: Chris Morris  //  Category: internet/computers

Now, I am not sure if I had told you but we moved from AAPT to Telstra because we were using to much bandwidth, infact supposedly we used 9GB of our 15GB of bandwidth over some ridiculous amount of time, around about 5 hours on a 1.5MBps connect, btw, I wasn’t using the computer, I was unpacking my stuff I brought on a holiday as I had just got home from the holiday.

Basically we were getting ripped, at least, we think, so we moved to Telstra when we moved house and we were put on 20MBps with 12GB bandwidth, I don’t know why 12GB but we had it upped to 25 as I went over in the first two weeks due to the fact that coming from a 1.5Mbps speed and moving to a 20Mbps speed, you can’t tell when you are downloading 50MB videos on youtube because it just downloads so fast, it feels like downloading a 3mb file on 1.5mbps (15 seconds to load.)

Anyway, so I finally went over 25GB today and yet with all these extra downloads I haven’t been told I have downloaded 9GB of stuff over 5 hours, in other words, it looks like AAPT were being a little doggy with us or they had a system that was screwing up, etc

Oh by the way, we went over 15GB 2 weeks in with AAPT, I have gone over 25GB with telstra on a MUCH faster speed (more downloads as well) one day before our bandwidth gets renewed.

I love.. or in Channel 9’s words, I heart telstra

Insomnia! Two NEW Sites Released!

Author: Chris Morris  //  Category: New Site Progress, World Wide Web

I love the sound of that word - it reminds me of Insomniac Games which I used to play until I got busy with websites (gosh, it’s going to be 4 years this year since I started aussieferal..), don’t like the meaning though…

I have had it all week.. Anybody know any tips? I can force myself to wake up early but I still can’t sleep, it was way past 4 am before I actually got to sleep last night.. I mean, THIS MORNING!

Anyway, I’ll google some ideas on helping to get to sleep.

I have bought another 6 domain names past the last few days, two of the websites are already working, I’ll tell you the two that are.

MD5r.com and SHA1r.com I have always needed a site that can encrypt info on the fly when I am testing out databases etc, well finally, I have made two. MD5 and SHA1 are two of the most popular forms of encryption out there, I hope these sites kick off! Now don’t worry, I only spent two hours last night making them, I am going to be working on GoneBerserk over this week.
