CS4 - How to Get RID OF THAT LAG!

Author: Chris Morris  //  Category: How to, hdx

Okay, as you probably read in my post earlier, I am getting MAJOR lag with CS4 on my system.
Oh, and to give you an idea, here are my specs
-Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme 2.8Ghz each core.
-4gb ram
-8800M GTS with 512mb

Well, turns out the problem is bridge & other start up applications, boy oh boy does adobe have a lot of start up apps, I’ve disabled a lot and it runs MUCH MUCH nicer, its still slower than before, but its worth while.

Just a quick update, but yep!

No More CS4 No More! If That Makes Sense?

Alrighty, so I called up adobe, and recorded the call (just in case I need it for future reference) and asked them, if the education version will allow me to publish my work. The lady on the phone said yes, the education edition does allow you to use your work commercially. I double checked, as in, repeated the question 3 times and she said yes yes yes.

So, it’s official, I can use the education edition for my websites. It also said an acadaemic ID is required, on the front of the box. I assume this is like a student ID that you get in TAFE or Uni etc - which I get one next year anyway. It never asked me for an ID, so not really sure what’s going on there, all I know is I have it installed, registered and running.

The installation process was VERY lengthy, I had to run down and put my laptop back on charge, so in other words, it took about 2 hours, then another hour on charge to install. 3 hours to install it all! BUT, it is WELL worth the wait, the installer was simple to use and only required 4 DVD’s for all the apps.

One downside though is I was an idiot and forgot to uninstall Fireworks CS4 Beta (which was a free trial, pre-release of the software from earlier in the year). So I uninstalled fireworks, and now I gotta try and figure out how to install it back without installing the whole suite again.

Another downside is that I was mislead into beleiving the whole suite was 64 bit, and sadly it’s only Photoshop & Acrobat Pro that is 64 bit. I am also going to be showing you the start up time for the applications. I was disapointed at this too, they said cs4 has many time savers, well, um, not as fast as CS3 for opening things. VERY slow.

ANOTHER downside is that my computer now takes FIVE minutes (up from 50 seconds) to boot Vista, it then freezes and I have to end explorer.exe and restart explorer, then it takes another couple of minutes before the damn thing works. VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY BAD FOR SOMETHING THAT COSTS OVER A FREAKING GRAND. VERY pissed off at this one.

In any case though, I’m happy that I have the newer features but feel really ripped off by adobe, to tell you the honest truth. Even the packaging was cheap… Anyway..

CS4 No More

I feel quite let down to be honest (READ THE UPDATED POST CLICK HERE!!!!). Not anywhere on the site nor email confirmation did it say that the CS4 I ordered was an education edition. So when I got it, I gave it straight back :(

Why can’t I use the education edition?

Well, first, I can NOT publish my work.
Second, I can’t do tutorials on the software.
Third, I need to be in TAFE or University to actually activate them.

For me to get the full version I’m going to need another $1600 - $2000.

I’ve lost a lot of motivation now, I was expecting to receive exactly what I ordered, and I didn’t…
