A New Host + PROXY INFO + Email

Author: Chris Morris  //  Category: World Wide Web

Alright folks,
I am now with both HostMonster and DowntownHost - they are both f**king great, I can’t really decide which I like better, here are a few ups and downs between the two hosts

HM = Hostmonster. DTH = DowntownHost.
-HM has faster FTP than DTH.
-DTH loads pages faster than HM.
-DTH has RVskins for cPanel (drools)
-HM have amazing support, while DTH are still pretty good, I have yet to find a company that matches/beats HM, but even so, DTH were REALLY nice too, they even helped me with things that they didn’t REALLY have to help with, only down side is sometimes they don’t answer the text support, but they do on skype - as if they want to avoid me, I may be wrong though.
-DTH have and allow ffmpeg
-HM has more bandwidth and space

So there you go, I love both of them, I will be using both, for the time being at least, DTH will host my ffmpeg enabled websites, techuila and tutorialc… I can’t tell you it yet :P. They have ffmpeg-php pre-installed and allow you to use it, unlike HM.

Just waiting for freaking Tel$tra to update their records so that I can actually connect to the proper DNS, everbody else around the world seems to be able to connect to this site fine at the moment.. meh.. no biggy, I mean, I’m only the one that runs the website :P

Annnnyywaaayy, PROXY!
Okay, so, ChrisTheFeral.com is now hosted on DTH, I did ask them if I was allowed to use a proxy on my website and they said no, however, one of their customers who wrote a testimonial about them DOES use a proxy on his/her website, in fact, their whole website is about proxies. I am going to contact DTH again and see if I can add the EZ2CUP link back.
For the meantime, however, you may use www.Style2Web.com/EZ2CUP

EMAIL!
I may have missed a few emails passed the last 48 hours, so make sure to resend them if you can. If I haven’t replied to one of your emails, chances are I never even read it.

Poor, Poor Microsoft, Now Google’s Beating You.

Author: Chris Morris  //  Category: Cool Finds, Reviews, Opinions & Comparisons, World Wide Web, internet/computers

I’m starting to feel for the team working on Internet Explorer at Microsoft. I mean, they are always one step behind. The other day I tried Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2, and although it has quite a few bugs in it, it is getting close to firefox standards. Then, just the other day, google releases Google Chrome a new web browser that combine both webkit (safari uses webkit) and mozilla, so you have mozilla looking rendering but with webkit’s extreme speeds.

So, anyway, this post is more aimed at google’s Chrome web browser, to tell you the truth, I love it, it’s in beta and I just LOVE it!! I’m sorry to say, but I am slowly switching to chrome from firefox (though, firefox, when FF4 comes out, I’ll give you another shot.)

In a quick dot-point form, here is why I LOVE Chrome over any other browser.

  1. Multi-threading, for example, a standard web browser does this: Rendering HTML, waiting for HTML to render, html is now rendered, moving to javascript, waiting for javascript to render ETC ETC. Google’s Chrome renders them all at the same time.
  2. Each tab has its own process, I guess you could say, so if one tab crashes, all your other tabs stay alive, and if your browser DOES crash, you can simply restore the last session.
  3. Task manager for your tabs, very easy to use.
  4. SPEED! This thing is blazingly fast, I thought firefox was fast, but, after a couple of javascript tests, chrome was close to 5x faster (with a cleared cache) than firefox (with a cached page) quite surprising if you ask me.
  5. Simplicity, it’s just so simple, it all just works and as you’ll start to see more and more apps moving online, such as google docs, you’ll see that javascript will be a necessity, and it chrome just handles it so well.
  6. New tab customisable page, you can have a grid of most visited sites on your own customisable page that opens when you click new tab, much like Opera’s Speed Dial.
  7. Compact design - I want to look at the webpage not a whole bunch of toolbars.

I could go on, but seriously, just try the beta (click here) if you are on windows (or a mac/linux with a windows emulator.) Mac and Linux versions are probably going to come out in the near future. Do some comparisons with firefox or safari, this is one amazing browser, I hope they release a mobile version for symbian.

Moved Host!

Author: Chris Morris  //  Category: World Wide Web

Well, I’ve finally moved host, FTP speeds are up and the website is loading faster for me at least, so I’m happy at the moment :D

Please note that if you see this message and then 20 mins later, it disappears, that means you are looking at the old host again, any comments etc posted during that time will be lost in the intertubes and will not be carried over to this host, it’s unlikely that you will see the old host’s version of the site again, but it’s possible.

So, tell me what you think, is the site any faster for you?
